Choosing the Right Heater for You

dog-under-blanket-cold-homeMaybe you’ve been struggling to keep warm this winter because you’ve been trying to keep warm with a space heater instead of using your regular heater, since using the central heater would cost far more. Those portable space heaters can be handy in specific circumstances, but they  aren’t a lasting or effective solution to heating your whole home. If you have had to subsidize the heat in your home lately with a small plug-in system, it may mean that you need to replace your overly expensive heating system.

The next question, of course, is which heating system to install in its place? We can help you decide on what system will meet your needs best.

Your Heater Options

Making the call for heater installation in Portland isn’t an easy choice. This isn’t a low-cost job after all. With that in mind, you want to make sure the heater you choose is going to be one you are entirely happy with.

That is why we want to tell you a bit about your options, including furnaces and heat pumps.

What to Know About Furnace Heaters

Furnaces are well-known heaters that are used all across the nation. Why? Because they are powerful systems that have become more energy efficient and effective the longer they have been around.

With their efficiency measured in their AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating, most furnaces on the market today have ratings of over 90%, meaning they convert most of the fuel they use into heat, with little waste.

Furnaces are forced-air systems that require ductwork to deliver the heat they create to the house. Their set-up allows them to continue to operate well during even the coldest of days.

These are ideal systems if you already have a furnace that needs to be replaced, or you already have ductwork that can be connected to the furnace.

The Details on Heat Pumps

Another forced-air system, heat pumps are also known for providing great warmth but with some added benefits. Heat pumps are quickly becoming more popular throughout the United States for two main reasons: they offer incredible energy efficiency, and they provide both heating and cooling capabilities.

Heat pumps provide great efficiency because they are electric systems meaning no natural gas is used so there is really no waste to worry about. This system can also be set up to operate without ductwork, or it can be made to use the ductwork in your home. What’s more, if you don’t already have a central AC unit, you can enjoy the benefit of your heat pump being able to cool your home come summer.

Hopefully, some of the information above has given you a better idea of what type of heating system you may want for your home. However, if you are still unsure, you can rely on us. We can guide you through the process of selection, installation, and beyond.
